The Green Drinks Event, held in Morristown at the historical and chic Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen this Sunday afternoon, December 10th, was much more meaningful than a holiday party. Morristown was celebrating its sustainability stardom!
The event was organized and hosted by Sustainable Morristown, celebrating their recent award of Silver Certification by the state’s parent organization, Sustainable Jersey. Morristown ranked with the fifth highest sustainability points in New Jersey, out of over 500 communities applying for the Sustainable Jersey Certification! Morristown received Silver level Certification, which is the highest category Sustainable Jersey currently offers. New Jersey is the first state in the US to develop this type of successful wide-ranging sustainability program.
Mayor Timothy Dougherty was presented with a beautiful Silver level plaque by Sustainable Morristown’s President, Lauren Cranmer. Heidi Raas, Treasurer, gave some opening remarks about the “green team” who led the effort for the town, non-profit Sustainable Morristown. Ed Russick, on the Board of Trustees, was commended for his extreme dedication towards earning points for the award. Others on the Board of Trustees are: Cathy Wilson, Vice President; Dr. Joel Harmon, Secretary; Lee Kaloidis; Susan Sparks; Chris Neff; Tilly Jo Emerson; Angela Echeverri; Leslie Hyans-DePalma; and Sean Ryan.
Six local businesses were awarded Certificates of Sustainability from the State due to their notable efforts: Glass Works Studio; Green Point Juicery; The Hyatt; Marty’s Reliable Cycle, Mayo Performing Arts; and Shade Tree Garage.
Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen generously contributed the entire upstairs of the previous and elegant Vail Mansion for this celebration of Morristown’s high achievement. Chris Cannon, Jockey Hollow’s Managing Partner, welcomed everyone to the event.
